Journey
Day 1: Arusha to Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

- Distance: 10 km (6 miles)
- Elevation Gain: 1,000 meters (3,280 feet)
- Overnight: Miriakamba Hut, located at 2,514 meters (8,250 feet), offering beautiful views of the valleys below and the towering cliffs of Mount Meru.
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
- After breakfast, continue your trek through alpine meadows, ascending gradually towards higher altitudes. Along the way, enjoy the spectacular views of Mount Meru's crater and the surrounding landscape.
- The terrain becomes more exposed as you ascend, crossing the transition zone into rocky ground.
- Arrive at Saddle Hut, situated at 3,570 meters (11,713 feet). This hut is the last stop before the summit, providing panoramic views of the Meru Crater and jagged mountain cliffs.
- Distance: 8 km (5 miles)
- Elevation Gain: 1,000 meters (3,280 feet)
- Overnight: Saddle Hut, allowing you to rest and acclimatize for the summit attempt the next day.
Day 3: Saddle Hut to Summit and Return to Saddle Hut
- Early Start: Begin the day with a pre-dawn trek to catch the sunrise from the summit. The terrain will be rocky as you ascend toward the peak, and you’ll be rewarded with incredible views along the way.
- Summit: Reach the summit of Mount Meru at 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), where you can take in sweeping views of the crater below, the surrounding valleys, and, on clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
- After taking time to savor the views, begin your descent back to Saddle Hut for a well-deserved rest.
- Distance: 12 km (7.5 miles) from Saddle Hut to the summit, then return to Saddle Hut.
- Elevation Gain: 1,490 meters (4,888 feet) to the summit and back down to Saddle Hut.
- Overnight: Saddle Hut for a second night.
Day 4: Saddle Hut to Momella Gate
- After breakfast, begin the descent from Saddle Hut back down through the alpine meadows and rainforest.
- The descent takes you through lush forests, and you may encounter more wildlife along the way as you make your way back to the Momella Gate.
- Distance: 12 km (7.5 miles)
- Elevation Loss: 1,490 meters (4,888 feet) back to the gate.
- End of Trek: Arrive at Momella Gate in the afternoon to complete your 4-day adventure.
