Day 1
Arrival in Moshi | Trek Preparation

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Transfer to your hotel in Moshi for a pre-trek briefing, gear check, and welcome dinner. Overnight at Salinero Hotel or similar (B&B).

Day 2
Machame Gate (1,640m) โ†’ Machame Camp (2,835m)

Hike: 5-6 hours | 11km โ€“ After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate. Begin trekking through lush montane forest. First views of the summit. Overnight at Machame Camp.

Day 3
Machame Camp โ†’ Shira Camp (3,840m)

Hike: 4-5 hours | 5km โ€“ Steep climb out of the forest onto the Shira Plateau. Breathtaking views of Kibo Peak. Acclimatization walk in the afternoon. Overnight at Shira Camp.

Day 4
Shira Camp โ†’ Barranco Camp (3,960m) via Lava Tower (4,630m)

Hike: 6-7 hours | 10km โ€“ “Climb high, sleep low” day. Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp. Overnight in the valley of giants.

Day 5
Barranco Camp โ†’ Karanga Camp (4,035m)

Hike: 4-5 hours | 5km โ€“ Conquer the Barranco Wall (a fun, non-technical scramble). Traverse across ridges with stunning views of the Heim Glacier. Overnight at Karanga Camp.

Day 6
Karanga Camp โ†’ Barafu Camp (4,640m)

Hike: 3-4 hours | 4km โ€“ Short hiking day to reach Barafu (ice in Swahili), the summit base camp. Early dinner, equipment prep, and rest before midnight ascent.

Day 7
SUMMIT DAY! Barafu Camp โ†’ Uhuru Peak (5,895m) โ†’ Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Hike: 12-15 hours | 15km ascent / 12km descent โ€“ Start at midnight. Climb through scree slopes to Stella Point (5,756m), then follow the crater rim to Uhuru Peak โ€“ the highest point in Africa. Celebrate sunrise at the roof of Africa! Descend back to Barafu for rest, then continue to Mweka Camp.

Day 8
Mweka Camp โ†’ Mweka Gate โ†’ Arusha

Hike: 3 hours | 10km โ€“ Final descent through rainforest. Collect summit certificates at Mweka Gate. Drive back to Arusha for hot shower, celebration dinner, and overnight at Hotel in Arusha.

๐Ÿฆ TANZANIA SAFARI (4 Days / 3 Nights)

Day 9
Arusha โ†’ Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire โ€“ famous for massive baobab trees and the largest elephant herds in Tanzania. Afternoon game drive spotting lions, leopards, giraffes, and zebras. Overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge or tented camp.

Day 10
Central Serengeti | Endless Plains

Early morning game drive in Tarangire, then drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the Crater for a half-day safari โ€“ a natural amphitheater with dense wildlife including the endangered black rhino. Overnight at Serengeti Wild Camp.

Day 11
Ngorongoro Crater | Full Day Game Drive

Full day inside the Ngorongoro Crater floor. Spot the Big 5 (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard) along with hippos, hyenas, flamingos, and thousands of zebras. Picnic lunch at Hippo Pool. Overnight at Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge.

Day 12
Lake Manyara โ†’ Arusha โ†’ Departure

Morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park โ€“ famous for tree-climbing lions and flamingos. Afternoon drive back to Arusha. Hot lunch, souvenir shopping, then transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) for your flight home. Karibu Tena! (Welcome again)

โ“ What fitness level do I need?

You should be able to hike 4-8 hours per day with a daypack. Regular cardio training (running, swimming, stair climbing) for 2-3 months prior is recommended.

โ“ When is the best time to go?

January-March and June-October offer the best weather. Avoid long rains (April-May). The safari is excellent year-round.

โ“ Can I rent gear?

Yes! Sleeping bags, trekking poles, down jackets, and all camping gear available for rent in Moshi ($5-20 per item).

โ“ What about altitude sickness?

Our Machame Route itinerary includes proper acclimatization days. We carry oxygen and diamox (altitude medication) is available with doctor consultation.
